ABOUT THE PHOTO
Taken at Flying Legends 2019, Duxford, Spitfire Mk.Vc getting airborne on the grass runway to join up for the mass balbo formation at the end of the show. Operated by Comanche Fighters LLC, she was built in 1943 at Castle Bromwich, and shortly after that, set sail for Australia to serve with the RAAF. After a flapless landing downwind in 1944, she flipped over and was written off and set into storage. In 1973 she was discovered in the undergrowth, and passed through a number of owners before her restoration with Historic Flying in 2003, and her first flight in 2006. She was shipped to America in Jan 2008, but by the end of the year Comanche Fighters brought her back to UK where she is now painted up in the colours of 249sqn who operated out of Ta Qali airfield, Malta.
